Redfish are fun, snook are a blast, trout taste good on the dinner plate… but there’s only one fish that we chase after that we tell everyone about every chance we get! That fish is affectionately called the “Silver King”. A.K.A., Tarpon. It is the single most exciting fish to target here in Florida! Hand down, no competition.
Every summer, tarpon invade the beaches, bays, and passes in and around Charlotte Harbor. And, specifically, the majority of them spend the summer in Boca Grande pass. That’s where I spend my summer as well! And that’s where I take my clients to experience the most exhilarating fishing that Florida has to offer.
This summer, the tides and moon phases will be best on the beginning, middle, and end of the months. That’s when we will get what we call the “hill tide”. It’s when the tide is just right to flow out so strong in the afternoons that it flushes all the crabs out of the bay and through the passes. Tarpon love crabs and they stage up in these areas to gorge themselves on crabs.
I still have a few dates open this summer if you’re interested in hooking a fish that weighs over 100lbs and leaps into the air once hooked. Don’t miss your chance at fishing for tarpon in the “Tarpon Fishing Capital of the World”!
